The appointment
What the hour actually covers
History and x-rays
We review your medical history and medications, both of which change how we treat you, then take bitewing x-rays that show decay between teeth and the bone level around them.
Examination
Dr. Mathew examines every tooth, your gums, your bite and the soft tissue, and screens for oral cancer. This is her personally, not a hygienist reporting back.
Bite analysis
How your teeth meet explains a lot: uneven wear, cracked teeth, jaw pain and headaches often trace back to it.
The conversation
You hear what she found, what she recommends, what it costs and what happens if you wait. Then you decide. Nothing is settled in the chair under pressure.
Why $99
What this offer is actually for
A comprehensive exam with x-rays typically runs several times this. We price it at $99 for uninsured new patients because the most common reason people put off finding a dentist is not knowing what walking through the door will cost.
It is not a loss-leader that turns into a sales pitch. You will get a written plan separating what needs attention now from what can reasonably wait, and there is no obligation to book any of it. Patients tell us in reviews that this is the thing that made them switch practices, and it is the reason we put it in writing.
If you do have insurance
We will bill your plan instead, which in most cases covers a new patient exam and x-rays at or near 100%. That usually leaves you paying less than $99, not more, so tell us about your coverage rather than assuming the special is the better route.
Common questions
Questions we hear most
Who qualifies for the $99 special?
New patients without dental insurance. If you have coverage, we will bill your plan instead, which in most cases covers a new patient exam and x-rays at or near 100%.
Does it include a cleaning?
No. The special covers the examination, screenings and x-rays. A cleaning is separate, because until Dr. Mathew has examined you and reviewed the x-rays it is not clear whether you need a routine cleaning or a deep cleaning, which are different treatments at different costs.
Can I use it for a dental emergency?
No, emergency procedures are excluded. If you are in pain, call (843) 970-3799 and ask for a same-day emergency appointment instead. Getting you out of pain comes first.
How long does the appointment take?
Allow about an hour. That covers your history, x-rays, the examination, and time with Dr. Mathew to go through what she found and what she recommends.
What happens after the exam?
You get a clear picture of where things stand and a recommended plan with costs in writing. There is no obligation to book treatment, and nothing is decided in the chair under pressure.
Do I need to complete forms first?
It helps. Download them from new patient forms and bring them completed, or arrive fifteen minutes early and fill them in here.
Is there any obligation to book treatment afterwards?
None. You leave with a written plan and the costs. Whether you proceed, phase it over time, or take it elsewhere for a second opinion is entirely your decision, and the plan is yours either way.
What if the exam finds a lot of work is needed?
Then we separate it into what is urgent, what is important but not urgent, and what is elective, and sequence it so it is manageable. Treatment that has to be accepted all at once tends to get postponed indefinitely, which helps nobody. Financing is available through CareCredit if that makes the difference.
